About the clinician
behind Gentle Giant Counseling
Hello! I'm Reginald Gilmore II (he/him), originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. I earned my Master's degree in social work from UTC, where my deep passion for this field was ignited. As an African American therapist, I've witnessed firsthand the harm caused by oppressive systems. I believe in the vital need for both social justice and personal healing, recognizing that repairing trauma often begins at home. My mission is to help clients not only survive but thrive in the face of adversity.

I understand firsthand how race, culture, and gender impact access to therapy and the way it’s provided. My goal is to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone who has faced marginalization due to their identity. I strive to offer an inclusive and affirming environment for positive change.

No matter your past or present experiences, a richer, more authentic life is within reach. Trauma, depression, stress, and anxiety don’t have to hold you back from achieving success, joy, and happiness. I aim to help you grow and identify any obstacles in your way. Together, we’ll develop new coping strategies, build resilience, and foster a deeper understanding of yourself. Our therapeutic relationship will focus on you and your goals.

In my practice, I specialize in providing compassionate support to individuals, couples, youth, and families. I believe that with the right guidance, every challenge can be overcome. Together, we’ll uncover your desires, beliefs, and what it means for you to live authentically. To me, mental health is health, and my mission is to destigmatize therapy. Emotional wounds are just as real as physical ones, and seeking help is a brave step toward healing.

With over a decade of experience in diverse therapeutic settings—including schools, hospitals, and clinics—I have honed my skills in small-group therapy and one-on-one counseling. I am well-prepared to help you navigate any issue with empathy and expertise, providing a holistic approach to your care.

When I'm not working in a clinical setting, I find solace in exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Oregon with my partner and our mastiff. On gloomy days, you'll likely find me lost in the pages of a book, seeking both refuge and inspiration.
